8 Differences Between the Meadow Creek
TS60 and SQ36 Barbecue Smokers
This short article covers eight main differences between a Meadow Creek TS60 Barbecue Smoker and an SQ36 Barbecue Smoker.
- The TS60 barbecue smoker has a heavier smoke chamber than the SQ36 smoker. The TS60 smoke chamber is 3/16" thick and the SQ36 uses 13 gauge (3/32" thick) metal.
The TS60 smoker uses reverse flow draft to ensure that the heat and smoke are evenly distributed throughout the smoking chamber. Before entering the smoking chamber, the smoke and heat travel through a channel below the smoking chamber to the far side of the tank. Then the smoke reverses its direction as it enters the smoking chamber and is pulled through the cooking area, and finally, exits the smoke stack on the same end as the firebox. The SQ36 has a distribution channel for the smoke in the bottom and center of the smoking chamber, where the smoke goes from the firebox into the smoke chamber and then out the stack on the end opposite the firebox.
- The TS60 smoker has a built-in pan under the bottom grate for water smoking. The pan can hold up to one gallon of liquid. We recommend using water or apple juice in this pan to increase the moisture level in the smoke chamber. The SQ36 does not have this pan so the drippings go to the bottom of the smoker.
The TS60 smoker is easier to clean up than the SQ36. The TS60's drip pan catches the drippings and slants to the center with a V groove running down the center. This groove funnels liquid to the drip stem at the one end. The drip stem has a heavy duty valve on it, conveniently located on the outside of the smoker. The SQ36 has a screw-in plug on the bottom of the smoke chamber.
- The grates slide out on the TS60. The 2nd Tier Grate adds more cooking space to the SQ36, but the 2nd Tier Grate sets on top of the bottom grate, making it a little more inconvenient for flipping your meat.
- The TS60 comes standard with a work shelf along the front side. The SQ36 doesn't have a shelf.
- A standard TS60 smoker with two grates has 756 square inches of cooking area. The SQ36 with the optional 2nd Tier Grate has 935 square inches of cooking area.
- The TS60 weighs 425 pounds. The SQ36 weighs 300 pounds.
Hopefully, this article explains why the TS60 BBQ Smoker is more than double the price of the SQ36 BBQ Smoker. Both of these are fine smokers and ready to give you outstanding results for years to come. Your needs and budget can help you determine which smoker will give you the best value for your money.
