120 Pounds of Chicken on a Meadow Creek BBQ26S

Friday, August 28th, 2015

Meadow_Creek_BBBQ26S_4

This month, I had the privilege of grilling at Shawnee Structures for their Open House. In one day we grilled 120 pounds of chicken legs and thighs on my (tiny) BBQ26S Chicken Cooker and 50 burgers on a second charcoal grill.

The Open House was on Friday and Saturday, but I was only available to cook on Friday, so they asked me to grill chicken for Saturday too. I had planned to cook only 90 pounds but since the chicken comes in 40 pound cases, I had gotten 120 pounds. The customer asked if I’d grill the extra meat for them, so I stayed a couple hours longer to grill the rest of it.

The BBQ26S holds around 15 pounds of chicken, so it took 8 batches to crank through 120 pounds of meat. I arrived on-site around 10:30 am, got the grill hot soon after 11:00, and the first batch of chicken done by 12:10. Batch 8 went on the grill at 7:15 and finished sometime after 8:00 pm. I certainly got my daily fill of smoke and sizzle that day!

How a Backyarder Can Cook for Profit

Chicken_02

Are you dreaming of starting a part-time barbecue business but don’t have the cash or time to pull it off right now?

Or perhaps you’ve figured out how to cook amazing barbecue and now you’re hearing things like, “you should do this for a business” or “would you cook for us at our family get-together?” but all you’ve got is backyard toys like a small charcoal grill and offset smoker?

Well, I’ve been there and done that… and I’ve learned that it is possible to feed quite a few people with my Meadow Creek SQ36 Smoker and BBQ26S Chicken Cooker.

In 2014 I had the privilege of cooking for two different local businesses. Since I’m just a backyarder, my equipment is small, and the kitchen I was using in our rented apartment was crowded. In spite of that, I was able to make a decent chunk of cash without investing in any more equipment.

15 Smart Ways to Expand the Usefulness of a Meadow Creek Chicken Cooker

Sweet BBQ42 Chicken Cooker

Meadow Creek’s Chicken Cookers, those grills with rotating sandwich grates, take barbecue fund-raising and backyard grilling to a whole new level. Double-sided rotating grates make it easy to turn the entire rack of meat with one hand. The stainless steel grates never rust and are easy to maintain, for many long years of use.

In addition to their ability to grill amazing bone-in chicken parts, these grills are perfect for many other foods too. So really, the name “chicken cookers” can be a bit deceiving. How many people have ignored these whizbang grills because of their name?

In this article, I will show you how great the chicken cookers are for grilling in general and a sweet list of upgrades you might want to consider for expanding the usefulness of your new Meadow Creek chicken cooker. (more…)

Meadow Creek BBQ26S Review

Meadow Creek BBQ26S Chicken Cooker

As a Meadow Creek reseller, we’ve been grilling with the BBQ26S Chicken Cooker for years. Last month I got one of these for my own backyard as a birthday gift, so I thought I’d show you how Meadow Creek is changing backyard grilling with their chicken cookers.

Meadow Creek originally designed their Chicken Cookers for grilling large amounts of bone-in skin-on chicken pieces. The deep pits are part of the secret in grilling bone-in chicken; you still have a direct fire, but not as direct as a regular gas or park grill. (Have you ever tried grilling bone-in chicken on one of those?)

The trailer units with three or more pits make it easy to crank out huge amounts of grilled chicken. Instead of wiring two big grates together and having a couple of big men flipping them by hand, these grills have a rotating sandwich grate. The grates hinge along one side and lock on the other. Now even a 12-year-old can flip your chicken!

Meadow Creek BBQ26S Chicken Cooker

Sunday was Father’s Day, and we spent part of the day at my parent’s place. Marlin grilled a batch of chicken thighs (skinless/boneless) on his Meadow Creek BBQ26S Chicken Cooker, and it was top notch.

I admit, the chicken doesn’t look too great in pictures cause I shot them on my phone, but it was astonishing in real-life! Juicy and full of flavor.

Grilled Chicken and My Birthday

Friday, March 9th, 2012

grilled_chicken_plateAs some of you already know, my birthday was this week. We don’t all feel love and appreciation the same way, but gifts really strike a chord in my heart. My wife had a great time getting ready for my birthday. Instead of putting 28 candles on the cake (I guess I’m officially too old for candles now), she wrapped up 28 gifts. Please don’t think I got 28 smokers and grills. 🙂 A lot of the gifts were small items, such as jeans, peanut butter candy, and camera gear on my Amazon wishlist.

Marlin (my brother who works in sales) grilled chicken for us on his Meadow Creek BBQ26S Chicken Cooker. My wife made some sides and a chocolate / peanut butter cake with a chocolate glaze. (It was too good.) We had a great time with my whole family in the evening.
