Usage Recommendations

For Smoking - we recommend using non petroleum based starters. Residue in the smoke from these starters can contaminate the cooking box with the potential to effect the flavor of the meat. The use of a torch or paper and kindling is most effective. Use approximately 25-30 lbs. of charcoal in fire box to get started. Once meat is placed in smoker, you can add wood in fire box for smoking. You can continue to use wood or charcoal (your choice). Add wood or charcoal as needed to maintain temperature where you want it. Optional charcoal basket holds approximately 40 lbs. of charcoal briquettes and ensures efficient, even temperatures.

For Grilling - remove bottom grate from smoker and slide in optional charcoal pan. Put in you desired amount of charcoal and slide top grate above charcoal pan.

  1. Frank

Just received my TS120 (no chicken cooker, just the tank and warming box) on Sunday, 25 July 2021. Bought it from Mason-Dixon BBQ out of Greencastle, PA and Fredrick, MD. Right now, I’m in love with it. Got the stainless shelves, the smoke in the warmer, the insulated fire box, added temp probe ports, the vinyl trap/cover, and the charcoal basket. Now, granted, I’ve only completed two cooks on it after seasoning it, but here are my thoughts:

The good. Holds temps, easy to keep a fire going. Temps across the pit at the bottom grate are within 50 degrees, which is a huge upgrade from what I was using. The built in thermometer seems to be calibrated. Can hold a ton of food.

Area of improvement: it leaks a bit, but not a whole lot, out of the main door. It isn’t much, and if it gets to bothering me, then I will just put some high temp sealing strip. If I had to do it again, I would not get the charcoal basket. The reason is that you lose about three inches on the side and it is hard to put logs in cross-wise (total, not each side. So 1.5 inches on each side). If I had to do it over, I’d buy it standard and buy a third party charcoal basket.

Overall, though, I love this thing and I’m in love with it. The build quality is great. Really great. As for the gripes, they are really minor. My only feedback, other than the minor leak, is for meadow creek to add a grate to the bottom of the charcoal box slide so you can have a choice in how you want to use the firebox.

Again, love this smoker. Five star rating overall because my gripes are so minor (at least to me).
